Occupy Movement News Update of the Day: 10 Occupy Davis protesters were arrested at UC Davis during a peaceful demonstration in the campus quad.

A UC Davis spokeswoman said protesters, who have been camping on the quad since being kicked out of the university administration building on Wednesday, were warned to remove their tents or face eviction by police.

Many dismantled their camping equipment before police arrived, but about 50 protesters stayed put.

The video above shows the students who chose not to leave being pepper sprayed by a police officer while sitting with linked arms around the encampment.

“The communication between police and our liaison was sparse,” said Nick Perrone, recording secretary for the graduate student workers union. “They were not communicating well with student activists. We had no intention to antagonize the police.”

my parents are paying full tuition. i don’t get any financial aid. my parents are neither rich nor poor. they work hard for their money & it’s actually really unfair how it got approved for their tax dollars to be used to pay for college education for illegal immigrants. the government should either give students who are here LEGALLY more financial aid or lower tuition (at the current rate, that’s not going to happen any time soon). and despite the tuition spikes, you don’t see me wasting my time protesting on the quad or “occupying davis”. yes, i agree that police brutality is never right, but don’t complain about it when, in all honesty, you brought it upon yourself. who cares if you were “peacefully protesting”? they said to get off the quad by 3pm & you didn’t. in the bigger picture, i don’t give a crap who’s the 99% or who’s the 1% because while my parents are still paying for my $13,000 education, i’m going to work my ass off to do well in school, not sit around protesting/complaining about how it sucks to be the “99%”. you are wealthier than the majority of the world & you are privileged enough to be attending a UC. you are wasting your time, your parents’ money, taxpayer’s money, and cans of pepperspray. perhaps i’m being insensitive but i just don’t want any disturbances to my peaceful cowtown davis :(

Seems like aleeyoo would have told Rosa Parks would have deserved getting brutalized for her civil disobedience if she was to have gotten pepper sprayed. You probably would have told Martin Luther King Junior that he had no business doing what he is known for today.

You obviously don’t know too much about the occupy movement if you think it’s merely about money and class. LOTS of people in the 1% support the 99% , because it’s not necessarily against the rich. It’s about speaking out against corruption and directed towards social and economic injustice. It’s against the 1% who get rich at the expense of the 99. Look at the econmic collapse of 2008 and what led to it. What wall street executives did with bailout money. Raising public school tuitions while officials give themselves raises. Etc. Etc.

  2. To those who claim that the blame for the pepper spraying belongs solely to the cops and not to Katehi:

    broadwayninja:

    I say this.

She gave the order to the cops to disperse the protestors. She was complicit in the actions of the police officers. Her utter lack of response to the real needs of students has proven her incompetence to lead.

And as for Lt. Pike, I figuratively want his balls on a platter. What a disgraceful man.

While I don’t think that the chancellor is completely blameless, what we can say for sure, at this point and time, is that she only asked for the assistance of the campus police after protestors set camp. She asked the officers to have protestors pull their tents down for violating safety codes, not to attack them. It’s against UCD policy to spend nights there and she was doing her job. It’s hard for me to say she needs to bear the consequences for the course of action the police decided to take.

These occupy idiots need to get a life.

I don’t care what they say. I’m not rich, I work hard. I’m too buy to join a bandwagon like this.

All they want to do is make things equal among everyone. Why? Bc the rich have worked hard. People are lazy and ignorant and want a hand out.

You obviously have NO IDEA what the occupy movement stands for. And while there are rouge protesters that get involved for the sake of it, the underlying message is a call to end corruption in corporations. Like what led to the 2008 economic crisis. I bet you have NO IDEA. lol.

Please read before you make an idiot out of yourself. There are many people in the 1% that support the 99% and their cause. If the 99% was asking for the rich to give up their money do you think the 1% would be supporting the occupy movement?

  4. I’M LAUGHING SO HARD RIGHT NOW

    honestimperfections:

I just read something that said “here’s to Dani winning it all” PEOPLE ARE SO FUCKING DUMB!

YOU ALL REALIZE THAT EVEN IF DANI AND HER LITTLE BAND OF TARD’S MANAGE TO GET JEFF,JORDAN,BRENDON and RACHEL OUT THEY ARE ALL GOING ON THE JURY

AND WILL IN NO WAY LET DANI TAKE THE MONEY RIGHT?! I MEAN RIGHT?

WHICH BRINGS ME BACK TO HER WINNING HOH, EVEN IF BRENDON GOES HOME THIS WEEK THE LOOK ON HER FACE WAS…..

You have terrible taste. You’re calling DAni and HER alliance retards? Jordan can’t even tell time.

Jeff is making such a big deal about secret alliances and calling everyone floaters when his ass is keeping his alliances with Adam and Shelly top secret. He only won ONE veto. People with his track record don’t get to call people losers. Shut the effe up loser.

  5. I loved X-men, but there was one thing that annoyed me.

    walkaway-beforeihurtyou:

It was obvious from the point where i heard about it that Charles would end up in a wheel chair. But during the third movie when they visit young Jean he is fully mobile, and they are both old.

    Pointless rant is pointless.

There is no continuity from the first three films and the new film. The new director is making his own trilogy. He wants to set himself apart from the first three, which is good in my opinion. Things change even in the original comics, so it’s ultimately up to the director and how he wants things to go.
